INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-WEEK 9

This week help me to know about trends in the internet and World Wide Web (WWW).

I have learned about Web 2.0

It is the popular term for advances Internet Technology and applications including blogs, wikis, Really simple Syndication (RSS) and social bookmarking. It is about the maturity of the Web and businesses that are thriving online.

I also have known about web 3.0.

It is about semantic web (or the meaning of data), personalization, intelligent search and behavioral advertising among other things.

Last but not least, i have learned about Wed Application. It is an application that is accessed over a network such as the Internet or an intranet.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-WEEK 8

There were some problems with the electricity in ICT building again in this week. We had to move to library to study the next lecture. My lecturer explained briefly about the lesson to my group. Therefore, I have learned some main points about information system development methodologies.

Actually there are various methodology definitions. According to what i have understood, a methodology is a collection of procedures, tools and documentation aids which will help the systems developers to implement a new information system. A methodology for developing information systems is needed to bring order and structure to a complex technical and organizational process

There are many different methodologies used in systems development, such as: Gane and Sarsons (STRADIS), Information Engineering (IE), Jackson System Development, Structured approach (SDLC), and so on.

I would like to summarize the main ideas of some important ISD methodology.
The first is about STRADIS. The focus of analysis in this method is the Data Flow diagram, which is used to describe the processes of the system, and how the processes transform data.

The second is about IE. It's an architectural approach to planning, analyzing, designing, and implementing applications within an enterprise. The figure below is the steps of IE methodology:

The next is about Jackson system development (JSD). It is a method of system development that covers the software life cycle either directly or, by providing a framework into which more specialized techniques can fit. JSD is a technical method. Other technical methods include Structured Analysis and Design and Object-Oriented Systems Analysis and Design.

Last but not least, it is about SDLC-The oldest and most known methodology used to coordinate the efforts of information systems development is known as the “Waterfall”.
This model is based on a set of generic life cycle stages to guide developers from an initiating through maintenance of the completed systems.
It covers many activities starts from understanding why the system should be built, studying the project feasibility, analyzing problems, choosing the system design and architecture, implementing and testing it, up to delivering the system as product to the user.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-WEEK 7

In this week, we had IT mid-term exam. we need to study what we have learned before to get high mark. It's from week 1 till week 5, but the focus is on week 5. I have studied what my lecture mentioned during class and i did the exam all my best.

Also in this week, due to some problem with the electricity, we were not able to go on the next lecture. we decided to go to library and searched for some information about Information System Methodology to prepare for the next class.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-WEEK 6

In deed, this week help me understand better about the function of Information Systems.I have known about some types of IS, which are Transaction Processing System (TPS), Decision support system (DSS), Management Information System (MIS), Executive Support System (ESS) and Expert System as well.

Firstly I have learned that ESS helps managers make strategic decisions affecting the entire company. The decisions use internal and external data to give executives the information they need to determine the proper course of action in unstructured situations.

What i have learned next is DSS. It is an organized collection of people, procedures, software, databases and devices used to support problem-specific decision making. It is used when problem is complex and to support unstructured or semi-structured problems that require human judgment.

I also have known that TPS records the data from everyday operations throughout every division or department in the organization. Each division or department is tied together through the TPS to provide useful information to management levels throughout the company.

Moreover, I have found out about MIS. It is an integrated collection of people, procedures, databases and devices that provides managers and decision makers with information to help achieve organizational goals. It provides the right information to the right person in the right format at the right time.

Last but not least, I have learned about Expert System (ES). It is a part of a general category of computer applications known as artificial intelligence.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-WEEK 5

In this week, I have done an activity with my group's members. we went to library to find out the information for the chosen questions. After 3 hours working hard, we finally finished answering all the questions.

Bellow is our best result.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-WEEK 4

In this week, I have studied about Information Systems, which is a combination of hardware, software, infrastructure and trained personnel organized to facilitate planning, control, coordination and decision making in an organization.

I also have known that there are 6 components of IS, which are:
  1. Hardware: Consists of computer equipment used to perform input, processing and output activities.
  2. Software: Consist of computer programs that govern the operation of the computer.
  3. Database: Is an organized collection of facts and information, typically consisting of two or more related data files.
  4. Telecommunications: Is an electronic transmission of signals for communications which enables organizations to carry out their processes and task through effective computer networks.
  5. People: Manage, run, program, maintain the systems.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-WEEK 3

This week help me to understand better about IT and ICT. Information and communications technology (ICT) is concerned with the use of technology in managing and processing information. These innovations enable the processing and storage of enormous amounts of information, along with rapid distribution of information through communication networks.

I have known that the ICT management has 3 aspects: ICT Resource Management, ICT Services Management and ICT Governance. The ICT has changed society today as much as the industrial revolution changed society in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. There are lots of usages of ICT in our daily life, such as: education, banking, government, business, and so on.

INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY-WEEK 2

In this week, i have known that any computer-based tool that people used to work with information and to support the information and information-processing needs of an organization called Information Technology.

I have learned about IT architecture and IT infrastructure which are the physical facilities, IT components, IT services, and IT personnel that support an entire organization. In addition, IT components consist of computer hardware, software, and communications technologies. Besides, IT services consist of Data management, systems development and security management.

I also have known about Globalization. It is the integration and interdependence of economic, social, culture, and ecological facets of life, enable by rapid advances of IT. There are three stages of Globalization:

•Globalization 1.0 (from 1492 to 1800)

•Globalization 2.0 (from 1800 to 2000)

•Globalization 3.0 (from 2000 to the present)
